On 15th August 1947 beautiful, diverse India gained its long struggled for independence.

The colours of the Indian flag represent courage and sacrifice, peace and truth, and faith and chivalry. In the centre was a spinning wheel (charka) representing Gandhi's goal of India being self-reliant, it now represents the eternal wheel of the law. Apparently all Indian flags have to be made from khadi - the traditional Indian handspun and handwoven cotton cloth.
